Substitute Mikel Merino scored a stoppage-time winner as Spain edged out Portugal 1-0 in a tense Round of 16 tie at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, ending Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup career in the process.

Spain dominated large spells of the match without finding a breakthrough.
