Spain 2-1 Belgium: Merino's late winner books semifinal spot

Spain came from behind to beat Belgium 2-1 in Inglewood, California and set up a semifinal against France. Fabián Ruiz opened the scoring in the 30th minute, but Belgium hit back through Charles De Ketelaere in the 41st to level the game before half-time.

The game stayed level deep into the second half until substitute Mikel Merino settled it in the 88th minute, turning home a rebound after Pau Cubarsí's shot was spilled into his path. Merino needed less than two minutes on the pitch to make the decisive impact.

Belgium's afternoon was compounded by injury problems, with captain Youri Tielemans forced off after being hurt in the warm-up and goalkeeper Thibault Courtois also going off injured during the second half. Spain advance to face France in Dallas in the semifinals.
