Netherlands 1-1 Morocco (2-3 pens): Saibari sends Dutch crashing out

Morocco produced a dramatic late comeback and held their nerve in a penalty shootout to eliminate the Netherlands from the World Cup round of 32 in Monterrey. The first half was scoreless with few clear chances, before Cody Gakpo broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute, finishing after a Crysencio Summerville assist to put the Dutch in front.

Morocco refused to fold, and Issa Diop leveled the tie with a glancing header in the 91st minute to force extra time. Neither side could find a winner over the additional 30 minutes — Bart Verbruggen produced a crucial save to deny Soufiane Rahimi — sending the match to penalties.

The shootout went the distance. Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi and Neil El Aynaoui both missed their attempts, but so did three Dutch takers, including Justin Kluivert and Quinten Timber. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou saved Summerville's effort, and Ismael Saibari stepped up to convert the decisive penalty, sending Morocco through 3-2 on kicks.

Summerville was named man of the match despite the defeat for his repeated threat down the Dutch left. Morocco advanced to face co-hosts Canada in the round of 16, while the Netherlands' tournament ended in the last 32.
