Oyarzabal brace sends Spain past Austria into last 16

Spain eased into the Round of 16 with a comfortable 3-0 win over Austria at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, in their Round of 32 clash. Mikel Oyarzabal was the standout performer, scoring either side of a Pedro Porro strike to seal Spain's progress.

Oyarzabal opened the scoring in the 36th minute, converting a chance created by Marc Cucurella down the left. Spain doubled their lead in the 66th minute when Pedro Porro headed home from an Alex Baena cross for his first international goal. Oyarzabal completed his brace in the 89th minute, again teed up by Cucurella, to put the result beyond doubt.

Spain dominated proceedings throughout, controlling 64% of possession and firing 23 shots compared to Austria's five. The performance continued Spain's strong run through the knockout stages after topping their group, and sets up a Round of 16 meeting with the winner of Portugal against Croatia. Austria's run ended at the first knockout hurdle, having reached the Round of 32 for the first time since 1954.
