Ivory Coast 1-2 Norway: Haaland's late tap-in seals first-ever knockout win

Norway came from behind late on to beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in Dallas and record their first-ever World Cup knockout-stage victory, setting up a last-16 meeting with Brazil. Antonio Nusa opened the scoring against the run of play in the 39th minute with a stunning curled effort that dipped past goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.

Ivory Coast dominated large spells of the match and were left to rue missed chances before substitute Amad Diallo leveled with an outstanding solo goal in the 74th minute, having cleared a Norway effort off the line moments earlier at the other end.

With the match seemingly heading for extra time, Erling Haaland — who had been rested for Norway's earlier 4-1 group-stage loss to France — settled it in the 86th minute, tapping in from close range after Sander Berge's cross. It was Haaland's fifth goal of the tournament in three matches, moving him to within one of Lionel Messi in the race for the Golden Boot and extending his run of scoring in every competitive Norway game since October 2024.

The win sends Norway to MetLife Stadium to face Brazil in the round of 16, while Ivory Coast's tournament ends at the last-32 stage despite dominating large parts of the contest.
